Abstract

Runner bean (Phaseolus coccineus L.) is a valuable vegetable plant. Due to its intensive growth, it can also be used as an ornamental plant for summerhouses and pergolas. As  a honey-producing plant it is also valuable nectar flow for bees. In this research chosen varietal characteristics were compared concerning the leaves and flowers of a few cultivars of runner bean: ‘Japońska Fioletowa’, ‘Piękny Jaś’ (dry beans) and ‘Desire’, ‘Enorma’, ‘Lady Di’, ‘Scarlet Emperor’ (green beans). Significant differences in the size of leaves, flowers and inflorescences  as well as important  correlations between the studied features were demonstrated.
