Abstract

The aim of the study was to elaborate a system of estimation of horse movement efficiency on the basis of some biometric measurements. Twelve adult warmblood horses were studied. The horses were subject to ten biometric measurements taken with the traditional method and to two parameters of movement efficiency measured in walk and trot. According to the results obtained, a system of estimation of horse movement efficiency on the basis of biometric measurements was suggested. The data were described with the use of descriptive statistical characteristics and the multifactorial analysis of variance (ANOVA GLM), as well Pearson’s correlation. It was found that on the basis of the horse biometric measurements, with special regard to a scapula length and a thigh length, it is possible to characterize the horse’s movement efficiency in walk and trot. A rider affects the increase of step length only in walking. Such an increase was not found during trotting. The proposed project of estimation of horse movement efficiency can be applied in an initial choice of horses destined to a given kind of use.
