In this paper we showed the results of 4-years’ experiments on the usefulness of some cultivars and mixtures of grasses for decorative lawns in the Mazurian Lakeland conditions. The following characteristics were estimated in 9º scale: winter hardiness, turf compactness, colour, leaf fineness and general aspect of lawns. Amond the studied cultivars of Festuca ovina the best features for pure sowing were founo for cultivars ‘Witra’, both designed in the Department of Grassland Sciences and Nieznanice 'Klomb'.
