In a collection of cocksfoot samples (n = 54) obtained from grassland the content of potassium, calcium, magnesium and sodium were determined. In soil samples (from 0–10 cm layer) the studies determined exchangeable forms of the mentioned elements and basic physicochemical properties. Coefficients of correlation between concentration (in mass %) of the analyzed elements in cocksfoot were low and mainly not significant statistically. Those relationships were stronger if concentration of K, Ca, Mg, Na was expressed as their percent share of the sum of cations uptaken by plant in mmol (+) kg-1. Concentration of the analyzed elements in cocksfoot was more strongly related to sorption complex saturation than their absolute concentration in the soil. The coeffitients of correlation in relation soil – plant were the highest when the sum of taken cations was taken into account.
