Abstract

The results of three years’ research concerning changes in the productivity, yield structure and architecture of faba bean stand in dependence on the sowing system and row spacing are presented as factors influencing the on development and faba bean yielding. The greatest yield of faba bean cv. Nadwislanski were archieved from plants grown from single-grain sowing and cultivated in the widest row spacing which was 0.35 m. On the other hand faba bean cv. Tim gave the highest yield when it was sown as single-grain sowing and cultivated in narrow row spacing – 0.25 m. The yield increase of faba bean seeds is the result of using of lower plant losses from the stand and greater number of pods and seed per plant. The system of plant distribution on the unit area significantly affected the morphological features of plants. Plants cultivated in the singlegrain sowing were characterized among other things by lower height and greater area of leaves. Enlargement of rows from 0.25 to 0.35 m caused a significant increase of plant height and decrease of leaf area index.
