In the years 2012–2013 investigations concerning profitability of tomato production in greenhouses and plastic tents were conducted. The investigations were conducted in the Lublin region, in areas near Sandomierz as well as Podkarpackie province. Farms carrying out the cultivation in greenhouses in the inert medium as well as in home soil and in plastic tents in home soil were investigated. The incurred expenses and costs, the obtained yield, the price of sales, the production value, direct surplus, net and gross agricultural income using particular production technology were investigated. Direct, indirect, as well as total costs of production were dependent on the production technology. The highest costs were noted in the group of greenhouse farms, in which tomato was cultivated in rockwool, while the lowest in farms applying the production technology in foil tunnels in home soil. Direct surplus as well as net and gross agricultural income in farms producing tomatoes in greenhouses in inert medium as well as in foil tunnels reached positive values. The production technology in greenhouses in home soil proved to be unprofitable.
