Abstract

The experimental material consisted of two hybrid populations of Triticum durum, obtained as a result of crossing three morphologically different forms. Maternal forms were: the Austrian cultivar Astrodur (var. leucomelan ) and the Argentinian Buck Cristal (var. leucurum ). The paternal form in both crossings was a Polish line LGR 39/772/90/a/b (var. candicans). Generation F2 to F6 underwent a detailed analysis. For each crossing combination, coefficients of fenotypal correlation, coefficients of variability, heritability in the broad sense, and genetic progress were calculated taking into consideration the following features: plant height, spike length, number of spikelets per spike, number of grains per spike, number of grains per spikelet, grain weight per spike and 1000 grains weight. A great variety was noticeable as regards the values of all analyzed features, while the level of the received coefficient of variability and of correlation depended on the feature as well as on the crossing combination and the generation. High values of heritability coefficient as well as genetic progress for such important yielding traits as the number and weight of grains per spike were achieved in the combination in which the maternal form was the Argentinian cultivar Buck Cristal. It can be assumed that this variety is a good carrier of a high level of the above mentioned features.
