Abstract

In the years 1996–2000 a field experiment located on sandy soil, aiming to investigate the effect of growth stimulator – Atonik (0.1%) and foliar fertilizer application with Tytanit (0.4%) and Tyton-vit (0.8%) on the growth, yielding and raw material quality of American ginseng was conducted. Atonik used in the third and fourth years of vegetation resulted in a significant increase of roots and aboveground parts yield and improved raw material quality. Roots from the control object were markedly infested by Phytophthora ssp. and contained the smallest amount of ginsenosides (3.9%). Foliar application of Tytanit (fertilizer cointaining titanium) favourably affected the yields but lowered ginsenosides content. The most effective was Tyton-vit (folir fertilizer for tobacco), which brought about both an increase yield of roots and raw material quality.
