Oriental arborvitae, due to its ornamental characteristics, is a valuable component of urban green areas. In colder areas of the country (especially the eastern part of Poland) may freeze in the winter; therefore, it is not as common. That said oriental arborvitae is often grown in the Lublin area, especially in home gardens. Planted in appropriately chosen positions, it grows well and looks beautiful. The aim of the study was to determine the possible use of oriental arborvitae as a decorative species in climates of eastern Polish cities.During the tests 116 plants growing in selected districts of Lublin city were observed. Height measurements, quality and ornamental value assessments were made. Among the surveyed plants most were young specimens, with the height of 1–2 m. Individually older plants occurred with the height of more than 4 m. The best quality was observed in the youngest plants. There was a visible decline in vitality with an increase in height and age. Oriental arborvitae can be planted in the climatic conditions of Eastern Poland. To preserve all the ornamental value for a long time, it should be planted in selected warm and protected positions.
