Abstract

Yarrow (Achillea millefolium L.) is a common species occurring in Poland, mainly in the natural habitat. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of habitat on selected properties of yarrow growth and flowering. The study was conducted in 10 habitats located in Łęczna-Włodawa Lakeland around two lakes: Piaseczno and Łukcze. On each experimental area from June to September, every 2 weeks, the plant growth was measured. The species composition of the plant habitat was determined and the soil analysis was conducted. Places of yarrow growth had significantly different soil types, levels of nutrients, pH and species composition. The study showed significant differences in the height of plants from different locations. The height of yarrow shoots were ranged from 10.0 cm to 65.3 cm. The present study showed varied numbers of ramification stems depending on different locations. The number of ramifications per plant ranged from 1.9 to 7.1 pcs. The average diameter of yarrow inflorescence was from 2.7 cm to 7.0 cm and consisted of 19.8 to 80.6 branches.
