The research carried out in 2004–2006 investigated the impact of differentiated methods of a canopy treatment and nitrogen fertilization rate on infestation of hard wheat canopy. The experiment was conducted in three replications on loess soil with randomized block design at the Experimental Farm Czesławice. The studies evaluated infestation of hard wheat canopy, i.e. number of weeds and their air dry matter in g·m-2 as well as species composition. It was reported that chemical treatment of plants decreased the weed number by 72.3%, their air dry matter by 49.5%, whereas weed flora decreased from 6 to 11 species. The weed species dominating in a hard wheat canopy were Chenopodium album, Galinsoga parviflora, Viola arvensis, Elymus repens, Veronica persica, Echinochloa crus-galli, Convolvulus arvensis i Cirsium arvense. Introduction of differentiated nitrogen fertilization and retardants did not have a significant influence on infestation of hard wheat canopy.
