Abstract

Efficiency of fertilization in the forms of white mustard catch crop, vermicompost obtained from cattle manure, Polli-Pam fertilizer based on hen droppings and mineral NPK fertilizer applied in potato cultivation was assessed using various indices of fertilization efficiency including: nitrogen uptake, agronomic and physiological efficiency and relative nitrogen use. Agronomic efficiency expressed by tuber yield growth per 1 kg N applied ranged widely between the average 42 kg of tubers for catch crop to 287 kg of tubers produced on vermicompost treatment. The highest physiological efficiency expressed as yield growth per 1 kg of nitrogen absorbed by plants – 333 kg was found on Polli-Pam, whereas the lowest 290 kg on mineral NPK treatment. Potatoes, Baszta c.v., revealed better agronomic efficiency, whereas Irga potatoes showed better physiological efficiency. Relative nitrogen use for Baszta c.v. was on an average 70%, which was almost 20% higher than for Irga. Mean nitrogen use applied as vermicompost reached 95% as mineral material 75%, 60% was used form Polli-Pam fertilizer and only 14% from catch crop.
