Abstract

The studies conducted in 2000–2002 aimed to determine the effect of diversified fertilization on the amount and structure of yield produced by two mid-early table potato tuber varieties. Irga and Baszta cultivars were evaluated using the following test fertilizers: white mustard catch crop, vermicomposts prepared from cattle manure and Polli-Pam fertilizer based on hen droppings (both were applied to rows simultaneously with planting) and mineral NPK fertilizer. The highest total yield, number of set tubers and their mean weight, percentage of commercial tubers and large size tubers fraction were obtained on mineral treatment. Polli-Pam proved the most effective from among the tested organic fertilizers, whereas the catch crop was the least efficient. Baszta was the best yielding cultivar. On the other hand, Irga c.v. was characterised by a significantly bigger percentages of commercial and large size tubers and mean tuber weight. A significant effect of the weather conditions on the amount and structure of yields was also noticed.
