Effect of Planting Density on the Growth and Quality of Cherry Young Trees of Cultivar 'Łutówka' on the Stock of Sweet Cherry Tree (Prunus avium L.)

Abstract
Studies on the effect of planting density of sweet cherry on the growth and quality of cherry young trees were performed at the Experimental Station of Agricultural University Lublin – Felin, in 1997–2000. Objects of studies were three spacings of sweet cherry seedlings in the nursery: 25 x 90 cm, 20 x 90 cm, 15 x 90 cm. Differentiated stocks planting density did not change the young tree quality features and did not affect the number of cherry young trees in relation to budded stocks. Trees of 'Łutówka' cultivar growing in rows with high density were higher but thinner and worse branched than trees growing in the spacing 25 x 90 cm. High differentiation between the study years was confirmed. Cherry trees of best quality were obtained in the first production cycle. The greatest nursery efficiency of cherry was obtained in the density 15 x 90 cm.
