Effect of Hand-Thinng of Buds on the Growth and Cropping of 'Szampion' Cultivar Apple Trees

Abstract
The research was held in 2001–2003 on Sandomierska Upland. In the experiment there was estimated the growth and yielding of the trees of the 'Szampion' cultivar after hand thinning, which consisted in leaving a definite number of buds on the tree after June drop. It was proved that the leaving of a definite number of buds on the tree had essential influence on yielding. In the conditions of Sandomierska Upland a plentiful yielding of the 'Szampion' kind was obtained (average 60.6–113.4 tons of fruits from 1 ha). The highest yields were obtained from the controlled trees and the with 150 buds left. The growth and yielding of the examined trees depended on the age.
