Abstract

When the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in Zamość was established, collecting of the materials about atmospheric conditions, which had a significant effect on a crop production, was begun. First, it was an Agrometeorological Bulletin, which was created by IMGW in Warsaw and its main role was to publish measurement results from the Meteorological Station in Zamość. The establishment of the meteorological station in the are of the Experimental Station was preceded by the founding of The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and the Department of Protection and Management of Environment. The present paper describes the results of studies conducted on the variability of air temperatures in Zamość, during the last 30 years. This paper includes the changes of average monthly values of air temperature, especially taking into consideration the vegetative period (April – October). The highest values of an average air temperature were recorded in July, 1984 (15.5°C) and it rose to 23.3°C in 2006 whereas the lowest ones in January (–12.8°C in 1987 to 3.1°C in 2007). During that period there were also many exceptions to this rule. In 1982, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1990, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008 it was noted that the average monthly air temperature in July was lower than in August, while in January in 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2007 it was higher than in February. In the last 30 years, crucial fluctuations of air temperature were observed, which caused both positive and negative changes, which have a significant effect upon the size and quality of crop production.
