The paper discusses the problem concerning the balance between supply and demand on the sugar market in the European Union. In the past there was surplus sugar production and stock accumulation, high prices on internal market, which caused small competitiveness on the world market. The European export had to be subsidized. The sugar supply is regulated by law, which is why in the year 2006 the sugar market reform was implemented. The aim of reforming the European Union’s sugar policy is adjusting production to demand and improving the competitiveness of the European Union’s sugar market on the world market. The objective of this paper is assessing the achievement of the main goal of the reform.
