Medicinal properties and the decorative value of pot marigold Calendula officinalis L.

Abstract

Calendula officinalis L. is a plant from Asteraceae family. It comes from the areas of the Mediterranean Sea. This is an annual plant, commonly planted as an ornamental plant, but Calendula officinalis L. is one of the most popular herbs. The raw material from Calendula officinalis L. includes the capitulum or corolla of ray flower, which have inflammatory and antifungal properties accelerating wound healing. Calendula is willingly grown in home gardens as an ornamental plant which also attracts insect visitors.The cultivated varieties of ornamental forms include high and dwarf ones as well as with bicolor flowers. Plants sown at one station may remain on it for many years, due to the fact that the seeds are spread by themselves.
