The research was carried out in Experimental Stadion in Bezek (near Chełm) in the years 2004–2007. Its aim was to investigate the effect of various ways of one-year fallow field on winter wheat infestation. In this experiment, located on the rendzina soil, the following ways of fallowing were applied: A – bare fallow, B – mechanical and herbicide fallow, C – herbicide fallow, D – green fodder fallow, E – green-manured fallow. On the B and C field a 3 l ha-1 dose Roundup was applied twice. The estimation of weed infestation of winter wheat was done by the quantitative and weight method. Species composition, number and dry mass of weeds per 1 m-2 were determined. It was stated that bare fallow caused the least infestation of winter wheat whereas green-manured fallow the biggest. In winter wheat infestation, independently of the way of fallowing, short-lived weeds were more numerous than perennial ones, and Apera spica-venti was dominant. Fallowing field as a green-manured fallow caused numerous appearance of Apera spica-venti and Elymus repens in subsequent crop, compared with others ways of fallow field.
