A two-factor field experiment with spring wheat was carried out in 2001–2003 in RSD Zawady on a very good cereal complex soil. The following factors were taken into account: rates of nitrogen fertilizers applied at different growing stages, foliar application of fertilizers, four different varieties of spring wheat: Eta, Henika, Banti and Jasna. The results showed that a higher nitrogen rate caused a larger grain and straw yield of spring wheat. The largest grain yields were obtained at the rate of 160 N kg ha-1, but the highest straw yield was obtained at the rate of 60 N kg ha-1 + foliar fertilization. The results showed that the rates of technological values of spring wheat grain changed depending on nitrogen fertilizing rates and foliar fertilization. Increasing rates of nitrogen caused an increase of protein, gluten content, gluten number and falling number of spring wheat.
