Abstract
This paper presents the spatial differentiation and temporal occurrence of thunderstorms and hail in four localities situated in the north-eastern Poland. The study used observational material from IMGW-PIB from meteorological stations located in Elblag, Mikołajki, Olsztyn and Suwałki in the period 1981–2010. It was found that the highest average number of days with thunderstorms occurred in Mikołajki – 27 days, and the average number of days with hail were in Elbląg – 5 days. The highest number of days with thunderstorms were in the period from May to August, whereas the highest number of days with hail were in April and May. The long-term variability of the number of days with thunderstorms and number of days with hail shows increase of their frequency, but only in Elbląg these changes are statistically significant.
