Abstract
Based on the results of the yielding of winter wheat cultivars which were obtained in the experiments conducted within the frameworks of Post-registration Variety Testing System (PDOiR) in the territory of the Opole and Silesia provinces, an analysis of grouping of experimental sites characterized by similar variability of cultivars yielding was performed. The paper makes use of the results of the yielding of winter wheat cultivars from a series of PDOiR trials carried out in 2007–2009 at seven locations of different edaphic-climatic conditions within the Silesia and Opole Voivodeships. The experiments were conducted at two tillage modes, i.e. standard (A1) and intensive (A2), in two replications. The intensive level experiments differed from the standard level trials in nitrogen fertilization higher by 40 kg/ha, full chemical protection against diseases caused by fungi, and in the use of growth regulators and foliage feeding of the plants with multi-component preparation. The statistical analysis covers the yielding results of nine winter wheat cultivars examined at all the seven locations during three consecutive years. The outcome of the research was interpreted with the application of factor analysis, which enables to divide the experimental sites into subregions that are characterized by comparable variability of the yields of thecultivars. For the standard variant, three subregions were distinguished which differed significantly with respect to the yielding variability of the cultivars. The first group comprises the locations of Głubczyce, Modzurów, Łosiów and Nieznianice, whereas the second and the third groups are represented by the experimental sites situated in Pawłowice and Pągów, respectively. Distinguishing the subregions can contribute to optimization of the costs and effectiveness of PDOiR system through an ultimate reduction of the number of experiments to be performed and it will make it easier for farmers to select cultivars that are best suited to the natural conditions of particular farms.
