Abstract
A field experiment was conducted during the period 2015–2018 at the Czesławice Experimental Farm in Poland. This study aimed to determine the effect of herbicide application on yielding, weed infestation, and quality parameters of spelt wheat grain, cv. ‘Rokosz’. The present study showed that herbicide protection caused yield, weed infestation, and protein and gluten content in spelt grain to vary significantly. Compared to the control object, the objects on which the herbicide was applied were characterized by significantly higher-yielding (by over 10%), a lower number, and air-dry weight of weeds assessed 3–4 weeks after herbicide application, and higher protein and gluten content. Other parameters of the yielding components, weed infestation tested in the waxy phase of spelt wheat, and grain quality were not significantly differentiated by chemical protection against weeds. The assessed parameters did not differ significantly on the object where the full dose of herbicide and the dose reduced by 25% was applied. It proves the possibility of reducing the dose of herbicide applied in the protection of winter spelt wheat.
