Abstract
The aim of the study was to compare the yield, growth parameters, gas exchange, and weed infestation of genotypically diverse winter wheat cultivars grown in three tillage systems. Compared to direct drilling, plough and reduced tillage resulted in increased grain yield, leaf area index (LAI), stomatal conductance (Gs), and reduced leaf angle (MTA). The Hyfi cultivar demonstrated better LAI, chlorophyll content (SPAD), and Gs parameters, and similar yield levels in both plough and reduced tillage. Direct drilling resulted in lower LAI, SPAD, and Gs, and the lowest grain yield in the Hondia and Mewa cultivars. The tillage systems did not differ in transpiration intensity (E), while plough tillage promoted higher photosynthesis intensity (Pn) in all cultivars. Direct drilling and reduced tillage, followed by plough tillage, influenced the increase in weed infestation. The Hyfi cultivar was more competitive with the dominant weed species Galium aparine, Capsella bursa-pastoris, Cirsium arvense, and Veronica persica than Mewa and Hondia. Variable hydrothermal conditions during the study years influenced quantitative changes in weed infestation parameters, but did not differentiate weed species composition.
