The field research was carried out in the years 2000–2003 in the Experimental Farm Bezek located near Chełm (N: 51°19' E: 23°25'). The purpose of this work was to determine the influence of the dry matter of weeds on the chemical composition of potato tubers with organic and mineral + organic fertilization applied in comparison with the control without fertilization, depending on the soil agronomical category. The potato tubers coming from organic + mineral objects contained significantly more total proteins and less starch than the tubers from the remaining objects. The potato tubers grown on light soil contained significantly more total proteins, fibre, vitamin C and ash, as well as significantly less dry matter than tubers grown on rendzina soil. The results indicated significant positive linear relationships between the dry mass of weeds and starch and also the dry mass content in potato tubers. Proteins, ash, P, Mg content – on light soil and K – on heavy soil was also significantly negatively correlated with the dry matter of weeds.
