As DNA extraction is often the first step in molecular analyses of forest trees, the aim of this study was to assess the efficiency of six DNA isolation protocols. The research material consisted of European larch (Larix decidua Mill.) needles (collected in April and September) and wood (whitewood and heartwood separately). Analyses of DNA quantity and purity were conducted spectrophotometrically. Results of the analysis allowed to identify the best (out of all methods tested) DNA extraction protocols for larch needles and whitewood. DNA isolation methods used in this study were proved to be unsuitable for good quality DNA extraction from heartwood.
