Plants of the family Lamiaceae are valued as medicinal and spice species. The aim of the study was to determine the content of total phenolic compounds, flavonoids, tannins and essential oils and antioxidant activity of leaves, stems and herb of basil and lemon balm, as well as the correlation between antioxidant activity and individual groups of active compounds. It has been shown that the leaves and herb of basil and the leaves of lemon balm have strong antioxidant properties. It was found that there is a strong correlation between a high content of flavonoids, phenolic acids and tannins, and antioxidant activity of sweet basil and lemon balm, and the essential oil content is positively correlated with the antioxidant activity of basil and lemon balm.
