Abstract

The aim of the study was to determine the effect of napropamide, used with Devrinol 450 SC on the total polyphenol content, total flavonoid content, total carotenoid content and antioxidant activity of Calendulae anthodium. The three-year-long experiment was carried out on sandy clay loam with a Corg content of 12.08 g·kg-1. In the experiment, the soil was sprayed with Devrinol 450 SC at the following doses: 0 (control), half the field dose, field dose and twice the field dose. Immediately after spraying the seeds of marigold cv. Pacific Persimmon Beauty were sown. During flowering, the inflorescences were collected, dried and the chemical analyses were performed. The use of napropamide had little effect on the antioxidant activity and total carotenoid content in the marigold capsules. On the contrary, the greatest changes were recorded in the content of polyphenol compounds, especially in the total flavonoids. There was no clear relationship between the dose of napropamide and its effect on the antioxidant properties of the marigold inflorescences.
