Abstrakt

Ostropest plamisty (Silybum marianum (L.) Gaertn.) jest obecnie jednym z ważniejszych gatunków roślin leczniczych uprawianym na plantacjach zielarskich. Surowcem zielarskim ostropestu jest owoc (Silybi mariani fructus) zawierający kompleks flawonolignanów określanych jako sylimaryna. Sylimaryna wykazuje działanie ochronne i regenerujące względem uszkodzonych komórek wątroby. Działanie ochronne sylimaryny wiąże się z jej aktywnością antyoksydacyjną, przeciwzapalną, przeciwwirusową, a także odtruwającą. Związek ten wpływa również na syntezę RNA i DNA. Sylimaryna jest obecnie szeroko stosowana jako środek terapeutyczny w leczeniu wielu ostrych i przewlekłych chorób wątroby. Ostatnie badania dowodzą, że sylimaryna jest skutecznym lekiem przeciwwirusowym w przypadku wirusa zapalenia wątroby typu C (HCV). Wskazywana jest także jako obiecujący środek przeciwnowotworowy, przeciwcukrzycowy i nefroochronny. W lecznictwie i kosmetologii zastosowanie ma także olej z nasion ostropestu, bogaty w cenne kwasy tłuszczowe, fosfolipidy i witaminę E.
