Abstract

The research was conducted in 2016–2017, based on a field experiment conducted at the Agricultural Experimental Plant Kępa-Puławy, farm in Osiny (lubelskie province) belonging to the Soil Science and Plant Cultivation – State Research Institute in Puławy. The aim of the study was to assess the production effects of two soybean varieties (Aldana, Merlin) with different earliness classes depending on the method of soil preparation for sowing (plough cultivation, reduced tillage, strip tillage). The productivity of both soybean cultivars was differentiated by the course of weather conditions during the growing season and the tillage method used. Higher yield of soybeans (by 7%) was recorded in 2017, which was due to more favorable humidity conditions. The use of the strip till method in soybean cultivation in each year of the study resulted in a significant increase in seed yield compared to the yield obtained from simplified and full plough cultivation. The difference (on average for both years of research) in the level of yields obtained was 13% for simplified cultivation and 16% for full plough cultivation. The applied tillage method did not have a significant impact on the concentration of major nutrients in the seeds of both soybean cultivars. The seeds of the Merlin variety contained about 6% more protein than the Aldana varieties, and both varieties accumulated a similar amount of fat and fiber. Both evaluated varieties were characterized by similar elements of the yield structure (number of pods, seeds and seed weight on the plant, number of seeds in the pod).
