The studies included 34 Hucul horses according to the herd system, of private breed. The nervous irritability of horses using a timidity test by Budzyński’s method was evaluated and electronic
measurement of heart rate in rest and during the test was made. The analysis shows high nervous irritability of Hucul horses according to the herd system. With growth the horses had better results. Monitoring the heart rate, changes can be useful in initial evaluation of behavioural reactivity of horses. Significant correlations between timidity tests results and the heart rate of Hucul horses were shown.
