Abstract
The aim of the study was to assess the effect of selected factors on body condition of cows of Polish Holstein-Friesian Black-and-White breed and to examine its relationship with milk daily yield and milk composition. An analysis was conducted from May 2016 to April 2017 in a farm maintaining 75 cows with the annual milk yield of 9 400 kg. The body condition of cows was assessed once a month on test-day milking days, and the data on milk yield and composition were obtained from RW-2 reports. The body condition was analyzed depending on the season, successive lactation and its phase, and the level of the daily milk yield. The results of body condition scoring during lactation were used to estimate body condition impact on the daily milk yield and milk composition. Changes in the body condition and the frequency of particular scores were found to be significantly influenced by the factors taken in the methodology of this study. The highest average scores were noted in cows assessed in the fall, in the 2nd and 3rd lactations and those with the lowest daily milk yield. It was shown that the average body condition scores increased in subsequent stages of lactation, and the highest scores were most often found in dry cows. With the increase of the average body condition score the decrease of daily milk yield and the increase of milk fat and protein content (including casein) were observed.
