In the study conducted in years 2005–2007 the effect of red beet N-fertilization on the content of NH4+ and NO3- in the leaves and roots of plants of different stage of growth was determined. There were the following treatments: 90 kg · ha-1 N pre-sowing, broadcasting; 67.5 kg·ha-1 pre-sowing, broadcasting + 22.5 kg · ha-1 top dressing, broadcasting; 67.5 kg · ha-1 N pre-sowing, broadcasting + foliar nutrition; 67.5 kg·ha-1 localized manner; 67.5 kg · ha-1 localized manner + 22.5 kg · ha-1 top dressing, broadcasting; 67.5 kg · ha-1 localized manner + foliar nutrition. N-fertilization was performed by ammonium sulphate and foliar nutrition by urea and Supervit R. In the plants with foliar fertilization there was a decrease in NO3- content, but at the same time, there was an increase of NO3- content when N was applied by top dressing. There was no effect of ammonium deposition method on NO3- content in the plants. Aging of plants decraeased the content of NH4+ in the leaves and roots as well as NO3- content in the leaves. At the begining of the growth period the NO3- content in the roots was decreased, but at the end of planting it was increased.
