Raising the resistance level of cultivated cultivars to fungal diseases is now one of the most important problems of cereal breeding. The aim of this study was to determine the resistance level in Polish oat cultivars to powdery mildew. The subject of the analysis were 30 Polish oat cultivars included into Polish National List of COBORU. The analysis was carried out using the host-pathogen test, based on 12 powdery mildew isolates from different parts of the country. The study showed that the resistance of Polish oat cultivars is at a very low level. Among the analyzed cultivars only 3 cultivars, containing the defined resistance genes to powdery mildew, were identified. Variety Rajtar contained Pm6 gene, while cultivars Gniady Pm1 and Deresz contained Pm3 gene. None of the tested cultivars have Pm4 and Pm7 genes, which are currently the most effective genes against powdery mildew.
