The aim of the research was to assess the species richness and diversity of flora in the field margins in selected agricultural communes of the Lublin Upland. The study was conducted in 2018–2020 in the communes of: Bychawa, Jastków, Konopnica, Krasnystaw, Lubartów, Lublin, Rejowiec, Świdnik, and Wólka. The research material consisted of phytosociological relevés made within 45 transect plots designated in the field margins adjacent to the arable fields of various sizes (3–5 ha, 5–10 ha and > 10 ha). The total and average species richness, Shannon-Wiener diversity index, as well as the affiliation of plants to botanical families, life forms and their biological persistence were assessed. A total of 225 species of vascular flora were recorded in the study area. The average species richness of the field margin flora did not differ significantly depending on the location of the field margin and the area of the field to which it was adjacent. The factor that significantly differentiated the species diversity of the field margins flora was the location (commune) of the research site. The most numerous species in the field margins flora were from the families: Asteraceae (22.2%), Fabaceae (12.4%) and Rosaceae (8.9%). Perennial species accounted for 52.9% of the analysed flora and annual species – 24.9%. The majority of species found in the field margins were hemicryptophytes (55.1%), however therophytes also had a significant proportion in the studied flora (22.7%).
