Abstract

The hepatitis C virus is currently considered to be the main challenge to the public health. The long-lasting and symptoms-free course of the infection makes it very difficult to detect and diagnose. The purpose of this work is to present the characteristics of the occurrence of hepatitis C virus among the people living in Koniecki County. The research was carried out in 2017 and included numerical data for 2013–2015. The data comes from the County Sanitary-Epidemiological Station in Końskie and contains all cases of hepatitis C reported at the station. The reported cases were analysed with respect to age, sex and place of residence. During the study there were 13 recorded cases of hepatitis C virus in the area of CSES in Końskie. All the patients were adults, 30–59 years old. Among them there were 4 people who lived in a city while the rest were from countryside areas. As far as the number of people infected is concerned, during the duration of the research the percentage ranged from 0.02 to 0.09%, which shows a low coefficient value, compared with 1–6% in western countries.
