Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the influence of etephon on of the yield the components: number of spikelets in ear, number of kernels in ear, weight of kernels in ear, fertility of spikelets, 1000 grains weight in common wheat cv. Bezostaya isogenic lines: Rht-B1a (tall – control form), Rht-B1b, Rht-B1d and Rht-B1e. These lines were examined in the years 2000/2001–2002–2003 at the Experimental Station of Czesławice. The obtained results were subjected to the analysis of variance. On the basis of a three-year-long experiment we showed that the application of etephon caused plants height reduction in the analysed isogenic lines. The largest reduction was observed in ‘Bezostaya’ Rht-B1a and ‘Bezostaya’ Rht-B1d lines, which was the reason for a sig-nificant decrease of lodging. In short straw wheat lines, the application of growth regulators containing etephon did not influence the number of kernels in ear. Using the substances containing that compound in lines ‘Bezostaya’ Rht-B1b and ‘Bezostaya’ Rht-B1d most often increased the number of kernels per ear. Moreover, a slight influence of etephon was shown on 1000 grains weight and plot yield of examined isogenic lines.
