Abstract

The aim of the study is to determine the influence of atmospheric circulation on the condition of rapeseed plants after overwintering in the Lublin Region. Results of observation of rapeseed plants after each winter from 1974/75 to 2009/10 came from COBORU experimental stations in Bezek and Cicibór Duży. The relationships between atmospheric circulation and overwintering rates were analyzed on the basis of values of the NAO index, OWPs and OWPp indices (East Poland Zonal and Meridional Oscillation), zonal, meridional and cyclonical indices and frequency of circulation types over the Lublin Region from December to March. It was found that the condition of rapeseed plants after winter was most significantly affected by atmospheric circulation conditions in December. The greatest losses in rapeseed plantations were reported when a high frequency of easterly and south-easterly airflow along with a low frequency of westerly airflow was noticed. The adverse effect was also caused by a higher incidence of anticyclonic days, especially in February and March.
